The American Academy of Nursing named Geraldine "Polly" Bednash a "Living Legend," and the Texas Woman's University Distinguished Alumna will be recognized for her work this fall.

Bednash graduated from TWU in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in nursing, and was recognized as a Distinguished Alumna in 1997. She has advocated for the education of the nursing workforce, quality and safety in health care and increasing diversity in health professions.

The award is the organization's highest honor and will be presented during the academy's annual conference in October.
