In exchange for a commitment toward military service, aspiring college students might be eligible to receive a $10,000 scholarship toward higher education.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board extended the deadline to apply for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program to Aug. 31.
Each member of the Texas Legislature is able to make one nomination. To be eligible, students must meet at least two of the following criteria:
- Be on track to graduate, or have already graduated, high school with the Distinguished Level of Achievement Plan or the International Baccalaureate program.
- Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Have scored at least a 1070 on the SAT or a 23 on the ACT.
- Been ranked in the top one-third of the prospective high school graduating class.
Those hoping to receive a nomination from state Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, must submit an application to her office by Aug. 15. Applications can be mailed to P.O. Box 12068, Austin, TX 78701 or emailed to email@example.com.
