Lorena Salas was unanimously confirmed as principal for Denton ISD’s new Union Park Elementary School during the Denton school board meeting Tuesday night.
Union Park Elementary, which is still under construction, is situated along the U.S. Highway 380 corridor and is scheduled to open in August.
“I’m honored to serve the community and students of Union Park attendance zone,” Salas said in a news release. “I look forward to meeting our families that we will partner with to make the community a wonderful place to live and learn.”
Since 2013, Salas has served as principal of Alexander Elementary School in Denton. Previously, she was an assistant principal at Wilson and W.S. Ryan elementaries.
In addition to her obligation to Denton ISD, Salas also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas in the Bilingual/English as Second Language Department from 2009 to 2012, according to a news release. Her profile on the Alexander Elementary website is written in both English and Spanish.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to work alongside Ms. Salas as we open Union Park,” Jeff Russell, area superintendent over the elementary, said in the release. “She brings a wealth of experience and a proven record of academic achievement that will set a tone of excellence at our newest campus.”
Union Park Elementary will open in the fall in the Union Park development, north of Little Elm.
