When was the last time the Denton school board held a vote that was not unanimous?
School board meeting minutes posted on Denton ISD’s website date to Nov. 14, 2006. In the more than 280 meetings they’ve had since then, only one split vote was recorded.
On May 12, 2009, school board members were discussing the name of the district’s new prekindergarten facility, which would eventually become the Popo and Lupe Gonzalez School for Young Children. Board member Curtis Ramsey made a motion to name the building after the Gonzalezes, and board member Rudy Rodriguez seconded the motion.
Before the vote took place, board member Glenna Harris made a motion to table the naming for a future meeting. Board member Jeanetta Smith seconded, but the motion failed 2-4 with one abstention.
The original motion from Ramsey then went up for a vote and passed unanimously.
