Police arrest robbery suspect near scene
07:59 AM CDT on Thursday, August 7, 2008
Denton police nabbed a suspected armed robber blocks from the scene of the crime Wednesday afternoon.
Lt. Lenn Carter said the Lewisville man walked into City Finance, a check-cashing business in the 300 block of East Oak Street, about 4:45 p.m. and pointed a pistol at the clerk.
“He said, ‘Give me all the money in the place or I’ll shoot you,’” Carter said. “The clerk handed over the money.”
The man left, but the clerk was able to get a description and license plate number for the getaway vehicle. He phoned the information in to police.
Officers swarmed the area and spotted the vehicle on Bell Avenue at Eagle Drive, Carter said. They were able to stop the suspect on Carroll Boulevard at Collins Street.
Sammie Neal, 43, who lives in Lewisville and works in Denton, was in city jail Wednesday night awaiting arraignment on a charge of aggravated robbery.
